What you can do

Join our movement. Over the years Special Olympics has transformed millions of individual lives, but there is so much work to be done. Give to Special Olympics, or get involved as a volunteer, and support our vision – to open minds, transform communities and promote the acceptance of all people.

Get involved with Special Olympics.

Are you looking for a way to play sports, be inspired or have an impact in our community? Special Olympics Programs change lives and bring people together. Join the fun – be a part of our community of athletes and fans. In every corner of the world, athletes, coaches, volunteers and youth leaders are finding that Special Olympics inspires them to be their best and it can inspire you, too. Special Olympics is a great way to have fun and give back; but it’s the human connections people make through Special Olympics that truly change their attitudes, open their eyes to new possibilities and transform their lives.

We need you

Whether you are an athlete looking to compete, a volunteer looking to make a difference, or you’re just looking to have fun and be a part of something — come be a part of Special Olympics, and experience your own story of transformation.

Getting involved is easy. Contact our local Special Olympics today and help us make Special Olympics possible for more people in our community.

You can make a big difference, too, by donating to help this purposeful, exciting organization.

Help us empower families and give them a voice.

Family members of a person with intellectual disability often feel confused and alone. Special Olympics provides the family with acceptance, resources, hope and a chance to become advocates – making them a valued voice in our movement. Families of Special Olympics athletes are making our movement stronger. Recruiting and supporting other families, and educating the public about the mission, philosophy and benefits of Special Olympics, families help bring the movement to life.

Get your friends, organization or school involved

Young people know firsthand the pain of being left out, teased and excluded. They also are open-minded to new things and have the courage of conviction to step up and defend their beliefs. And they know how to have fun while doing it.

For this reason, we find that young people are some of the most powerful and effective advocates on behalf of acceptance. Sometimes, starting at a very early age. Learn about yourself and how to best serve our community! You’ll see opportunity and hope for a more accepting world and begin to see your role in making this world possible!

Special Olympics knows that young people without intellectual disabilities are the future policymakers, educators and business leaders of this world. We are committed to opening their minds and increasing their participation in the Special Olympics movement. Through a variety of programs, we offer many ways for young people to get involved, discover their voices as leaders and help change the world for the better. Are you ready to volunteer? Go to our Volunteer corner and see what you need to do to get started!

You can be a Special Olympics Volunteer!

Special Olympics would not exist today — and could not have been created — without the time, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of its diverse volunteers.

Are you looking for a way to give back and get a boost at the same time? Do you need to be inspired?

Getting involved with Special Olympics is about transforming lives, including your own. It’s about making your community and neighborhood a more welcoming and accepting place. Mostly, it’s about creating lifelong friendships and a new way of thinking about others – rewards of immeasurable value.

As a Special Olympics volunteer, you’ll take pride in knowing you’re providing athletes with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to experience the excitement, joy and personal fulfillment associated with sport training and competition. You’ll also become an important part of a global movement.

From students to professors, factory workers to corporate executives, celebrities to the not-so-famous, family members to health-care professionals, volunteers of all backgrounds are passionate and untiring in their support of Special Olympics. From the local coach who works with athletes every day, to the international organization holding World Games every two years, dedicated volunteers make Special Olympics happen. There is always something to do, with training, competitions and other events happening 365 days a year.

Contribute your unique skills to make our Programs run smoothly. Local volunteers register athletes, plan events, arrange transportation, recruit new volunteers and sponsors, manage Web sites, take pictures, publicize activities, fundraise, and much more. Every volunteer role is vital to running a successful Special Olympics competition and making the athlete’s dream a reality.

Volunteering with Special Olympics creates change that carries forth from our Programs and into the world. Whether you’re an individual or a member of a school, church, work, civic or other group; whether you can volunteer for just a few hours on a single day as a scorekeeper, or several hours a week, year-round, as a special events coordinator; there are volunteer opportunities for you.

Are you ready to make a difference? Are you ready to discover your own courage, faith, confidence and pride? Are you ready to have fun? Then give us a call today! Check out the sports we offer and what you need to do to volunteer by going to the volunteers corner!
